Abstract

"City" piece on a Portland City Council public safety committee proposal to put special camera devices at major intersections and along city streets to record drivers who run red lights or speed. A police technician then reviews the footage and, if appropriate, mails tickets to the owners of offending vehicles. But the legality of the system is in question and some say legislation is needed or it will be open to legal challenges.
