Abstract

In addition to the Rotary Club and Portland firefighters who ring bells at the Salvation Army kettles during the holiday season, there are about a dozen other volunteers, including Rene Moreau of Portland, who is 90. The goal for the holiday kettle drive this year is $150,000, which is about 12 percent of the Portland division's budget. Last year, the Salvation Army assisted almost 12,500 people in Greater Portland. The organization runs youth programs, summer camps, has a ministry program at the Cumberland County Jail and runs an adult rehabilitation center.
