Abstract
"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece on Gov. Angus King's plan to spend $200 million over the next decade to upgrade a number of back roads, including Route 27, to create a sort of east-west turnpike across Maine; Lisa Roche, president of Women Against Partial Birth Abortion, who blames the defeat of the partial-birth abortion bill on young college men who went to the polls last November to support the medical use of marijuana; and the compromise gay rights bill ironed out by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland and the Maine Lesbian and Gay Political Alliance.
