Abstract
"City" piece on the 140-unit Munjoy South Apartments in Portland. When Montfort Housing Limited Partnership bought the complex in 1997 for about $4.7 million, they promised to keep the rents affordable in order to win approval for state and federal grants that helped fund the project. Those grants came with strict income guidelines for tenants, and now renters who make too much money, more than $26,000 for a single person or $37,000 for a family of four, are being forced to move out. But because of Portland's tight rental market, the deadline to leave Munjoy South has been extended to June 30.
