Abstract
Pine Tree Legal Assistance is seeking a federal grant for a project that would make it safer and easier for domestic violence victims living in rural areas to obtain emergency protection orders from the courts. The program would be the first of its kind in the nation and would use video and the Internet to the courts to domestic violence centers in the state. Nan Heald, Pine Tree's executive director, said the video and computer link would allow victims to file for protection orders from the safety of a shelter, instead of visiting a courthouse where they might be confronted by their abuser.
