Abstract
Donna McNeil, the executive director of Ram Island Dance Company, was forced from her position after a March 21 meeting of the organization's board of directors. McNeil says the change was made after Millicent Monks, who, according to McNeil, has provided 60 percent of the organization's funding for the past 31 years, threatened to pull her support if the change wasn't made. The dispute apparently arose because McNeil sought " to give each dancer equal artist voice," a policy with which Monks strongly disagreed. Dancer Buffey Miller resigned in protest to McNeil's firing, leaving the company with only two dancers.
