Abstract

"City" piece on Portland School Committee member Erik Richard, who is resigning his at-large seat on the board. Richard, 23, was elected in 1998 and is the board's first openly gay member. He said he is quitting because he just needs a change, but his resignation comes eight weeks after local newspapers questioned his spotty attendance at board meetings after he became director of development for the National Lesbian and Gay College Fund, which is headquartered in Boston.
