Abstract

"So Noted" piece urging voters to defeat a measure on the November referendum ballot that would allow video lottery machines at certain horse race tracks even though 40 percent of the profits would be used for property tax relief. The Scarborough Downs racetrack, owned by Joe Ricci, is the only business in Maine that meets the requirements of the proposed law and, if the machines are legalized, the Casco Bay Weekly believes it should be done equitably and not as a giveaway to one businessman.
