Abstract

"Edge" piece on "vadding" or urban exploring. In Portland, there is a small, secretive group of true "vadders" who call themselves the Office Crew. The crew consists of seven or eight high school-age adventurers who sneak up stairs or take elevators to the roofs of office buildings and hotels on urban exploration missions. Alcohol and drugs often figure into the Office Crew's plans, both as inspiration and objective. Nevertheless, they've been caught by the police only once while exploring a building under construction in the Old Port.
