Abstract
"Edge" piece on Tim Rhys, the editor and publisher of MovieMaker, a magazine focused on the independent film industry. A Maine native, Rhys attended the University of Maine at Orono, where he studied journalism, doing internships at the Salt Institute and Canoe magazine in Camden. He also spent a year in film school in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Rhys started publishing MovieMaker in 1993 and today has a subscriber base of 5,000 to 6,000. About a year ago, he set up shop in Falmouth where he shares space with another publisher. Now Rhys is planning to create a festival to bring world cinema to Portland, probably in 2001.
