Abstract
"City" piece on Patricia Ordway, a local welfare rights advocate, who wants to start a non-food pantry in Portland to be called Operation Help. Ordway has $400 of the $500 she needs to obtain nonprofit status. But she has not yet found a free space for the pantry. She estimates she'll need about $10,000 to buy personal hygiene, general housecleaning and other non-food items to stock its shelves.
