Abstract

"Edge" piece on the Catholic celebration of Lent, which is a time of renewal and spiritual bonding that is meant to parallel Christ's 40-day excursion into the desert prior to His crucifixion and resurrection, and the Catholic tradition of giving something up as a means of offering a sacrifice during the Lenten season. With special focus on local Catholics, including Joe Reagan, 18; Fran Brown, 37; and Michelle Plourde, 30, all of Portland; and John DeDonato, 40, of Yarmouth.
