Abstract

U.S. represenative Thomas Andrews, who is facing U.S. represenative Olympia Snowe in the contest to succeed Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell in the U.S. Senate, on July 23 received the endorsement of the 5,700-member International Association of Machinists at Bath Iron Works. Andrews and the union had some serious disagreements over the North American Free Trade Agreement, but the union is supporting Andrews because Olympia Snowe has never visited the shipyard.
