Abstract
"Edge" piece on the Desert of Maine in Freeport, which is not really a desert but the result of humans overworking the earth. Some 200 years ago, the Tuttle family farmed the area, but after a century of shortsighted agricultural techniques, the topsoil disappeared, uncovering acres of sand left behind thousands of years ago by a glacier.
