Abstract
"City" piece on Portland Pier off Commercial Street in Portland, which is a public right-of-way. Peter McAleney, owner of New Meadows, a 23-year-old seafood company that occupies the end of the pier, has always gated off his operation when his business closes each day. New Meadows operates on the pier under a lease signed with the city in 1988. The lease stipulates that McAleney cannot unreasonably interfere with the city's use and enjoyment of the premises and that of the general public which may use the premises as a public way. City attorney Charles Lane said, if access to the pier is being denied, he would recommend the city terminate McAleney's lease.
