Abstract
Leslie Allen, a Portland paralegal, has filed suit in Cumberland County Superior Court against Rent-A-Center, charging that the company is guilty of price gouging, harassment and violating state rent-to-own laws. State law says a rent-to-own business cannot charge more than twice the retail value of a product over the course of a rent-to-own contract. Allen alleges that RAC inflated the retail price of products, so a customer ended up paying more than the amount allowed.
