Abstract

"City" piece on residents and businesses in Portland's Parkside neighborhood who have been complaining that they're not getting their mail. Portland Postmaster Mike Fortunato explained there is no deliberate lack of service to the area. He blamed the problems on a shortage of carriers and substitute carriers who are unfamiliar with the route. As a result, the remaining postal workers have to deliver mail to a larger area and, in some cases, the areas are so big, one person can't cover the entire route in one day. Fortunato gave no timetable for correcting the problem.
