Abstract

"Newsreal" piece on Portland's gay-rights ordinance, which is threatened by a proposed referendum sponsored by Carolyn Cosby and Concerned Maine Families that seeks to limit the number of classes allowed protection under Maine law. Opponents of the ordinance claimed it would lead to a flood of lawsuits and make life difficult for the city's small businesses and landlords, but only two cases have been filed since the ordinance took effect, and both were settled out of court.
