Abstract
"City" piece on Portland's public schools, which don't buy clothing or footwear made by children or slaves. To be sure it stays that way, the Portland School Committee adopted a policy earlier this month that will forbid such purchases in the future. The local policy adopted the language of a similar state law that only applies to state government purchases. The state law was passed in June 2001, and is currently in the rule-making process.
