Abstract

"Checkerboard Square," the book on Portland's homeless by University of Southern Maine professor David Wagner, has been awarded the C. Wright Mills Award by the Society of Social Problems. The award, named after the Columbia University sociologist, is given to authors with a new perspective and who advance the understanding of the social sciences.
