Abstract
"City" piece on New York restaurateur Matthew Kenney, who plans to reopen his upscale eatery, Commissary, in Portland's Old Port section this summer. The Commissary, formerly located in the Portland Public Market, abruptly closed April 9, due to financial difficulties. In February, the New York Observer reported that the Internal Revenue Service had placed more than $1 million in liens against Kenney for nonpayment of sales and payroll taxes, and the New York Post reported that Kenney is in litigation with several New York vendors. With comments by former Commissary employees who have been unable to cash their final paychecks.
