Abstract
"Cover Story" piece on Portland's architecture. The first tall buildings erected after the Fire of 1866 followed prescribed architectural traditions, derived from European standards of balance and harmony that integrated context and design. These pleasurable buildings are now often eclipsed by structures that pursue square footage without regard to style and context. With lists of Portland's top 10 and bottom 10 buildings and a description of each.
