Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on out-of-town talent agencies, including Starz National Models and Talent of Boca Raton, Fla; Face National Models and Talent of Charlotte, N.C.; Options Talent Group of Orlando, Fla.; and others that tell almost everyone who auditions that they have real potential for success and then charge hundreds of dollars for so-called professional photographs. Many who take their chances with out-of-town agents do not realize there are reputable local options, including Port City Models and Talent in Portland, and Utobia Models in Freeport. Unlike visiting talent scouts who hype the glamour and money enjoyed only by an elite group of supermodels, most local agents urge prospective clients to take a good look at the industry and keep their expectations realistic. With anecdotal evidence that the out-of-town agencies are exploiting local hopefuls and taking their money today, only to be gone tomorrow.
