Abstract
Article about Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), which affects about 15 percent of the population but is not recognized by many government agencies, insurance companies and doctors. In fact, MCS is not even taught in medical school. For those afflicted, however, it is a very real, often debilitating illness that can greatly affect the sufferers' quality of life. With focus on how the illness affects Sherry, a former Portland nurse, who is in her 50s and prefers not to be identified and Betty McCloud, 54, of Windham.
