Abstract
"Cover Story" piece containing excerpts from James Moore's new book "Human Sacrifice," which raises serious questions concerning the guilt of Dennis Dechaine, who has spent the past twelve years in prison for the July 1988 murder and torture of twelve-year-old Sarah Cherry of Bowdoinham. Moore attempts to prove Dechaine's innocence by detailing several pieces of significant scientific evidence, along with foul-ups and coverups of those who investigated and prosecuted the crime. Dechaine's lawyer, Thomas Connolly of Portland, believes his client will be freed if federal law is amended so that a federal court could evaluate Dechaine's DNA "proof" of innocence.
