Abstract

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded the Portland Housing Authority a $1 million grant to provide education and job opportunities to public housing residents. PHA plans to spend around half the amount on buying the city-owned lot at the corner of Congress Street and Washington Avenue and constructing a new home for the East End Family Workshop. Almost half of the HUD money will go to child care.
