Abstract

Residents of Long Island on May 6 will vote whether to accept a donation of around 120 acres of free land for municipal facilities, recreation and wildlife conservation. Under the proposed transfer, Northland Residential Corp. of Massachusetts will purchase more than one-fourth of the island from Phoenix Resources, and after donating most of the property to the town will sell the remainder as 27 house lots. The property served as a naval fuel depot during World War II, and may pose environmental hazards. Details.
