Abstract

Renovations of Portland's three middle schools are currently around $900,000 over the $14.8-million budget. The committee overseeing the renovations will decide within a few weeks whether to shut down the project until more money is found. Most of the overrun stems from federal asbestos removal regulations that took effect after the referendum approving the renovations.
