Abstract
Mohammed Kargar, an Afghan refugee living in Portland with his wife and four children, last July was convicted on two counts of gross sexual assault. Kargar was charged because he put his mouth on his infant son's genitals, clearly a crime in Maine but nothing more than a show of affection in Afghanistan. He is appealing the case, and if the appeal fails he could lose his refugee status and be returned to Afganistan. Details.
