Maine would be a very different place if: Dickey-Lincoln Dam had been built; the Allagash Wilderness Waterway had not been created; the Pittston Company had built its oil refinery in Eastport; voters had not approved acquisition of the Bigelow Range; the Big A oil dam had been built; Maine's billboard laws had not been passed; the Sanford Oil refinery had been built; Maine hadn't passed the strictest shoreland protection laws and regulations in the country; Maine had never recovered its public lots; or the Maine Pesticide Control Board had never been funded.
