Abstract
Feature article on Matinicus Island, which is located 23 miles from the mainland in the outermost reaches of Penobscot Bay. The island's population swells to about 60 in the summer, but tourism is not a big part of the local economy. Tuckanuck Lodge is the only inn, and there's just one restaurant-general store. The ferry from Rockland serves the island just three and occasionally four times per month from May to October. With a tour of the island.
