Abstract

With windows for walls, a spacious new residence not far from Kennebunkport seems as big as the salt marsh it overlooks. Essentially a two-story shingled box, dressed up with gables and Doric columns, the house consists of a single open kitchen and living room downstairs and a master bedroom, bath, guest room, and office upstairs. Limited to building on the footprint of a tiny nondescript cottage practically abutting a neighboring house, the owners and their design team maximized the window space on the sides of the house facing the marsh. The result is a home that seems both remarkably spacious and private.
