Abstract
Feature article on the old graveyards that make up most of the estimated 4,000 cemeteries in Maine. With information about the Maine Old Cemetery Association; virtual Maine graveyards on the Internet; Belfast's master monument carver, Douglas M. Coffin; a how-to on collecting gravestone rubbings; a how-to on restoring old cemeteries; and facts about some of the most interesting graveyards on the Maine Cemetery Trail, which extends from the Old Burial Yard in Kittery Point to some of the older cemeteries of the St. John Valley in far northern Maine.
