Abstract

Felsted was built in 1896 as a retirement cottage for landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, and is located amid coastal woodlands not far from Bar Harbor. Olmsted's progressive senility forced him into a Massachusetts sanitarium by 1898, and the house was turned into a summer hotel. In 1941 it was sold to a New York corporate executive, and his descendants owns it to this day. Details.
