Abstract
"The Talk of Maine" piece on public surveillance in Maine. The extent to which Maine has embraced the vogue for security cameras became apparent in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Two of the suicide pilots, Mohammed Atta and Abdulaziz Alomari, passed through Portland on their way to Boston and Logan International Airport. By combing through surveillance tapes collected from all over the Portland area, local police and the FBI retraced the pair's movements with amazing accuracy.
