Abstract

"The Talk of Augusta" piece on a new $32-million bridge in Augusta that, when completed in three years, will span the Kennebec River and connect Interstate 95 directly with Route 3, which leads directly east to Belfast. Called "The Third Bridge Project" because no formal name has yet been chosen, the new bypass will give vacationers a new, faster route to Acadia National Park and Down East Maine, reduce traffic pressure on Augusta's busiest street, and offer new business possibilities to every community between Vassalboro and Ellsworth.
