Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on the town of Cape Elizabeth, which reaches 12 miles into open ocean and has more public parklands and protected open space than any other town in Greater Portland. It is the home of Portland Head Light, Two Lights State Park, Crescent Beach and Fort Williams, a 90-acre park embracing the remains of a military fortification in use from 1871 to World War II, and the shell of the former Goddard Mansion. Though labeled Maine's wealthiest community, Cape Elizabeth 's median household income is $72,359.
