Abstract
"Down East Bookshelf" piece on "The Rise of the Creative Class" written by Richard Florida and published by Basic Books, New York. Florida's Creativity Index is a baseline indicator of a region's standing in the new Creative Economy. Maine's largest city fares well in Florida's system. Portland ranks 36th in the nation with a Creative Index (CI) score of 813. But Florida ranks Lewiston 181st with a CI of 412, and Bangor ranks near the bottom of the fourth quintile at 206th, with a CI of 343.
