Abstract

Detailed feature article on the November casino referendum, sorting out the conflicting assertions that are confusing the issue for Maine voters. The Penobscot Nation and Passamaquoddy Tribe want exclusive rights to operate a casino in the state. If approved, the tribes will build a $650-million gambling resort in Sanford. With comments by Barry Dana, Penobscot Nation chief; Erin Lehane, spokesperson for the pro-casino group Think About It; and Dennis Bailey and Roy Lenardson of Casinos No!, the major opponent to the project.
