Abstract
Kittery Point is a place removed from Kittery's busy shopping outlets and is notable for its historic architecture. Frisbee's Market, founded in 1828, claims to be the oldest family-run grocery in the nation and is run by the fifth generation of the family. The section includes Pepperell Cove, flanked by forts McClary and Foster; the Lady Pepperrell House; and the 1730 First Congregational Church. With a history of the area, which is bypassed by the tourists who stick to Route 1, and details on its shipbuilding heritage and its heyday as a summer vacation spot.
