Abstract

An account of a visit to the Moosehead Lake region and a hike up Mount Kineo, which is accessible by a short boat ride. Even during the high season in Maine, the author and her husband made the descent in solitude. Legend has it that the great hunter Gluskap felled a bull moose in the lake, leaving his shoulders to bleach in the sun, which is how Mount Kineo got its distinctive and impressive shape.
