Abstract

Brief article about Larry Mugnai, who, with his late wife, Helen, started Helen's Restaurant in Machias in 1950. Larry, who sold the restaurant in 19776, also invented its famous strawberry pie, which he continued to turn out until earlier this year, when, at the age of 86, he decided it was time to retire. His labors will be carried on by a trio of well-trained cooks who have promised to maintain tradition. Helen's was purchased in 1988 by Lubec native Judy Hanscom and her husband, Gary.
