    Abstract

    "North by East" piece on how Maine's Bureau of Medical Services, which oversees the state's Medicare and Medicaid payment programs, has cooperated with several private companies to develop computer software and systems that streamline the process of health-care claims. The projects are so far ahead of the field that more than half the states in the country sent representatives to a conference in Bethel last autumn to learn more about the technology.
