Abstract

"North by East" piece reporting that, thanks to the Bangor Management Corporation which has provided two bikes and associated equipment at a cost of about $3,500, the city of Bangor now has four police officers patrolling the downtown on mountain bikes. Lieutenant Donald Winslow of the Bangor Police Department said the patrols operate seven days a week and will last through the end of September. Besides allowing the officers to navigate in an urban environment, the bicycles have proven to be effective public-relations tools, which also keep the officers in good physical condition.
