    Abstract

Brief piece quotes Dr. Joseph Conforti of the University of Southern Maine's American and New England Studies program on the history of the celebration of Christmas in Maine. Surprisingly, Maine didn't even legalize Christmas as a holiday until 1858 and a customary Christmas in colonial and nineteenth century Maine was no Christmas at all.
