Abstract
Article about describing the Eyrie, a large Tudor estate at Seal Harbor that was bought in 1910 by John D. Rockefeller and his wife, Abby, to be used a summer retreat for themselves and their children. The couple paid $26,000 for the 65-room Eyrie, which they then renovated and enlarged to hundred rooms with the help of architect Duncan Candler. The Eyrie was ordered torn down in 1963 by David Rockefeller, one of John and Abby's children, just three years after John D. Jr's. death. With details on Rockefeller family life at the estate.
