Abstract

Profile of realist artist Linden Frederick, 43, a New York native, who moved to Belfast from Connecticut eight years ago with his wife, Heather, because they "just wanted a place that was reasonable and sane." Frederick was educated at the Ontario College of Arts and the Academia de Belle Arte in Florence Italy, and he is interested in light. His work concentrates on the ordinary--an old caboose on a siding, a nearly deserted stretch of Route 1, a non-descript shopping plaza. Frederick does not paint people because he believes the paintings then become about the people. He particularly likes to paint in the evening, because "I love the mood at dusk." His work is represented in the collections of the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland and at the Portland Museum of Art, and he has recently started showing in New York.
