    Abstract

"North by East" piece about physics professor Paul Camp of the University of Maine, who has spent almost forty years studying snow flakes. His interest is more than idle curiosity. Flake formation and shapes, for example, give clues to atmospheric weather patterns and have applications in solid-state physics.
