Abstract
"Inside Maine" piece on Wallingford Farm in Kennebunk, a giant farm store housed in a nineteenth-century barn on Route 1. On one end of the store, in the original 1804 half of the barn, is a small gift shop where you can find flowers, gardening tools, and handmade soaps. In the recently renovated wing is a specialty foods shop. Charles Godfrey and his wife, Karen, opened the farm store last year to provide funds to create an endowment that would preserve the old homestead on the property, once the residence of George Wallingford, a prominent nineteenth-century Kennebunk resident and a key figure behind Maine's entry into the nation as a state.
