Abstract
Article about Bill Lord and his solar-powered retirement home in Cape Porpoise. Lord is a Thornton Academy graduate who retired from ABC News in 1992. Long fascinated by the idea of harvesting electricity from the sun, when it came time to build his retirement home, he turned to Steven Strong, one of the country's leading proponents of solar-powered homes, to design his new home at Cape Porpoise. Lord is pleased with the result. He hasn't paid Central Maine Power Company more than the monthly minimum on his electric bill, and he does what he can to encourage others to consider solar heating by maintaining a solar-house Web site that is visited more than 70,000 times a month.
